Naomi Reilly Robinson

Naomi Robinson is an Australian/British flute player committed to celebrating new music and bringing music of different cultures to the stage. Naomi moved to Manchester in 2021 to complete her Masters of Music Performance at the Royal Northern College of Music and is currently completing her Post Graduate Diploma: Advanced Studies at the RNCM under the tutelage of Kevin Gowland (flute), Cormac Henry (flute), Jenny Hutchison (piccolo).

As well as performing in many of the RNCM large ensembles including: Chamber Orchestra, Ark Ensemble, Opera Orchestra and Big Band, Naomi is a dedicated chamber musician, exploring new music for traditional instruments. Since moving to Manchester Naomi has already collaborated with six composers on new works, one solo flute work, one flute and electronics, and seven new works for wind quintet. Naomi has a passion for chamber music and ensemble playing and is a founding member of the newly formed, eclectic ensemble the 'Azalea Wind Quintet' which celebrates new music from up-and-coming composers from the United Kingdom, Australia, Portugal and Hong Kong (the founding members birth countries). The 'Azalea Wind Quintet' were finalists in the 2022 Fewkes Chamber Music Prize.

Naomi also founded the Sydney based 'Eucalypt Trio’ (flute, clarinet and bassoon) who she performed with in recital series' when in Australia. While Naomi has over 20 years experience as a flute player and it is her main instrument and passion in life she is also proficient in trebling on Flute/Piccolo, Clarinet and Saxophone showcasing her work most recently in the professional production run and revival of 'The Wiz' with all new arrangements by Sean Green at Hope Mill Theatre in Manchester, a musical which celebrates diversity.  

 

Naomi completed her undergraduate degree at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music learning from James Kortum and graduated with Honours in 2018. She holds an interest in music practice research after completing her honours thesis "Tertiary music practice: comparing motivational practice categories that influence successful performance" and her Masters Major Dissertation: "Self-efficacy in practice when preparing for performance". 

Naomi has a long history of contributing to music education, teaching in Australian schools as both a Flute tutor and an ensemble director for 10 years and is now taking great joy in expanding her teaching in schools and studios in Manchester. Naomi was recently chosen to take part in a new project as a Flute player with the Piccadilly Symphony Orchestra; the ‘This Is Us’ composition and performance project which collaborated creatively in four primary schools across diverse communities in Manchester.
